교과목개요

사람들이 일반적으로 동의하는 시각적인 표현이 존재하지 않는 대량의 추상적인 데이터를 직관적으로 시각화하고 동적으로 제어할 수 있게 함으로써 사용자들의 인지능력의 향상을 꾀하는 정보 시각화에 대하여, 시지각 이론을 포함한 이론적 바탕에서 출발하여 데이터의 형태별 시각화 방법론, 인터액션 방법론, 디자인 스터디 방법론, 평가 방법론 등 다양한 기술적 배경을 실제 문제 해결을 통하여 학습한다. 더 나아가서, 정보시각화 기술에 기반하여 인터액티브한 시각적 인터페이스를 디자인하고 이를 통하여 전문가의 창의적 문제해결 능력을 극대화함으로써 인류가 직면한 실제 문제를 해결하려는 새로운 과학적 시도인 시각적 분석 기술도 학습한다. 특히 통계학, 기계학습, 데이터마이닝 등 데이터 과학 분야의 관련 기술들을 정보 시각화 시스템에 효과적으로 융합하는 기술적 방법론도 다양한 실례와 디자인 프로젝트를 통해 체득한다.

영문교과목개요

Information visualization is a field of study on the use of computer supported, interactive, visual representations of large abstract data to amplify human cognition. This course covers comprehensive research topics of information visualization, which include the theoretical background of human visual perception, visualization methods for diverse data types, interaction methods, design study methodologies, and evaluation methods. This course also covers the science and technology of Visual Analytics that is a new scientific attempt to solve real-world problems by boosting the creative problem-solving skills of human experts through the use of interactive visual interfaces based on Information Visualization techniques. Students can also gain experience in integrating Information Visualization techniques with related data science techniques in statistics, machine learning, and data mining through various real-world examples and design projects.
